About Uisce Éireann

Uisce Éireann is committed to playing its part in the national drive to provide homes to people who need them by developing and prioritising the delivery of key water service infrastructure.
Making progress in this area is a top priority for Uisce Éireann with one of the largest investment portfolios in the State, with €5.2 billion being invested between 2020 and 2024 to improve water services infrastructure.
We have significantly increased our capability to support planning referrals, connection applications and onsite quality checks to support the delivery of housing. In 2022, Uisce Éireann issued positive connection offers associated with 36,989 housing units.

Projects that enable new homes, growth and more reliable and safe water services are being accelerated across the country this year. Some examples of progress already made include Lough Mask, Vartry and Cork Lower Harbour supporting water services in our communities.
We are working in partnership with all those who are committed to the goal of providing homes, to ensure Uisce Éireann can deliver water infrastructure where and when its needed.
We listened to industry and stakeholders and have made changes:
Published first ever Water and Wastewater Capacity Registers on water.ie to give an indication of whether there’s enough water/wastewater capacity in an area for development – to support developers and Local Authorities to prioritise areas with services.

Rolled out Self Lay in the Public Road programme – we piloted and now are delivering a programme that facilitates the laying of water services infrastructure in public roads by developers.
We launched a new Experience Based Accreditation Scheme that will accredit Experienced Contractors to deliver new water services infrastructure in public roads for housing developers. The scheme, which has been launched 18 months ahead of schedule, recognises contractors’ adherence to Uisce Éireann’s Standard Details, Codes of Practice and Quality Assurance procedures.

Working with our regulator the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, Uisce Éireann has developed a First Mover Initiative policy proposal to mitigate ‘first mover disadvantage’ for developers.

About Roadstone

The origins of Roadstone go back to the early 1930’s when two young Dublin brothers Tom and Donal Roche started a sand and gravel haulage business with a Bedford truck operating from a small yard at Inchicore in the suburbs of West Dublin. Initially called Roche Brothers it later became the Castle Sand Company and developed steadily during the 30’s and 40’s. The brothers launched a new company, Roadstone, on the Irish Stock Exchange in 1949.

They were supported in this venture by John A. Wood who had his own sand, gravel and quarrying business in County Cork and which later joined with the Roadstone Company

The early years were not easy for the fledgling Company. The Irish economy and the construction industry languished during the 1950’s and although Roadstone continued to expand the company did go through difficult times. However during the 60’s Ireland entered a period of rapid economic growth and it was then that management acquired key geographic land acquisitions with sound underlying stone reserves in preparation for the future. Some of these reserves continue to prosper today.

Tom Roche led the engineering and production side of the company while Donal Roche had the difficult task of ensuring finance and administration kept pace with growth of the company. At this time the company also cultivated key people who brought new professionalism to planning, development, investment and people skills.

In parallel to this story, the Irish cement industry, previously a state body was also developing rapidly. By the end of the 60’s, Irish Cement had become the largest industrial Company quoted on the Irish Stock Exchange with Roadstone the third largest. In 1970 the two Companies merged to become Cement-Roadstone Holdings now known as CRH plc. CRH is the largest building materials company in North America, a regional leader in Europe and has a growing presence in the Asian economies of India and China.

About IJM Timber Frame

IJM Timber Frame is a method of building which in essence replaces the thermally inefficient inner block wall of a building with the much more thermally efficient Timber Frame wall. This is particularly true for houses in Ireland where both roofs and floors are constructed of timber trusses and joists respectively and it is also common practice to build all first floor walls as timber partitions.

IJM Timber Frame as a manufacturer is unique in Europe, as we do not outsource any aspect of our structural components. We manufacture the complete range of components that go into making a dwelling from trusses, roof panels, floor panels, wall panels and steel components. We also pressure treat and grade structural timber to ensure premium quality.

IJM are not just a manufacturer of Timber Frame, we are the Original Manufacturers of Timber Frame and our expertise allows us to offer a huge diversity of products and services that would not be available elsewhere.

Our continuous Research & Development Programs conducted in conjunction with TRADA, The British Research Establishment (BRE) and Enterprise Ireland have led to us to being able to offer a diverse range of customized building systems such as our patented “Open House®” System which allows for future lifestyle changes without the need to upsize/downsize your actual house.

Dedicated Design teams produce detailed models of buildings, which are graphically viewed and structurally analyzed, rigorously reviewing every facet of the assembled sub-components. Our Design Engineers and Architects ensure that all manufactured items, comply with current standards and best practice. Once the project has been agreed and finalized, all these individual manufacturing details are then produced on a wide variety of automated lines and machines. Using expert networked technology all component parts are automatically cut, arranged and fixed into position for each individual project.

IJM Timber Frame’s investment in Technology also allows us to provide customized, bespoke designs, from a small dwelling to the grandest mansion, as well as facilitating the production of larger scale multi-discipline projects.
